In the 1850s, as a child, JANG Seung-up is saved by the scolar KIM Byung-moon from being beaten by a group of drifters. After discovering Seung-up's talent in art, he encourages Seung-up to pursue the life of a true artist and gives him a pen name, Oh-won. And so Seung-up starts his life-long journey to find the true meaning of art. Through the turbulent times of the late Chosun dynasty, his fame grows and he reaches impossible heights for an uneducated lower-class artist. However he continues to yearn to change and stretch beyond his limits...
