Directed by Korean-French auteur Ounie Lecomte, ``Brand New Life'' was introduced at the 14th PIFF. Set in a South Korean orphanage in the mid '70s, the story is based on the director's past. Jin-hee is an isolated and abandoned nine-year-old who is forced to deal with abandonment over and over again. Jin-jee's short relationships are as emotionally engaging as they are heartbreaking, and underscore the child's innate abilities to survive.
